Is Your Body Stuck in Fight or Flight?

November in Winnipeg. The days are short, the holidays are approaching, and the to-do lists are growing. We often think of stress as a mental game, but stress is a physical reaction.

The Gas and The Brake

Your nervous system has two modes:

  • Sympathetic (Gas Pedal): Fight or flight. Muscles tighten, heart rate goes up.

  • Parasympathetic (Brake Pedal): Rest, digest, and heal.

When we are chronically stressed, our body gets stuck with the gas pedal floored. Shoulders rise to the ears, the neck becomes rigid, and sleep suffers.

Regulating the System

You cannot always control the stress in your life — deadlines, traffic, family — but you can control how your body processes it. At Vera Chiropractic, our focus is neurologically based. We use gentle adjustments to pump the brakes. By clearing interference in the spine, we signal the brain that it is safe to relax. This helps your body shift back into healing mode, ensuring you have the energy you need for the festive season ahead.
